How This All Works
Get to know the steps of Jewish Divorce
Application
The application can be submitted by either party and includes names, contact information, and a few brief questions e.g. status of civil divorce, if/when re-marry, and Hebrew names of wife/husband.
Appointment of Agency
Document appointing Rabbi Pasternak to write/deliver a GET and provide witnesses required by different stages of the Jewish Divorce process.
Writing
The GET is written by hand in Hebrew/Aramaic with quill and ink on heavy paper. Two trained observers are present to check accuracy and witness/sign the GET.
Delivery
Scripted ritual of 15-20 minutes duration where the wife takes possession of the GET in front of two witnesses.
PTUR
Following delivery, the GET details are entered into the data base of the Bet Din of the Rabbinical Assembly of America and deposited in a secure archive. The wife and husband will each receive a PTUR (Certificate of Jewish Divorce) that stands as proof the process was carried out according to Jewish Law.
